Terms

The rules of the game.

Rivalock is an escape-room and puzzle game. By installing it and creating an account, you accept what follows. It is short, and it is written to be read.

Your account

An account is required to play: it carries your progress and gives it back to you when you change phones. An account belongs to one person, and you answer for what happens on it. The game is not aimed at anyone under thirteen.

What other players see

Your nickname, your avatar, your title, your badges, how many rooms you have finished, your stars, your streak and your ranking, and the feats the news feed shows — the detail is in the privacy policy. So pick a nickname you are willing to show: one that is insulting, hateful, or impersonates someone can be changed or the account closed.

There is no messaging in the game. You cannot write to an opponent: you can only send one of the thirteen built-in emotes, never more than three per round — and none at all in ranked matches, where they are switched off entirely. A nickname or a behaviour that causes a problem can be reported to contact@rivalock.com, and we answer.

Playing fair

Duels and the ranking only mean something if nobody cheats. So the following are forbidden: modifying the app or its save file, automating play, exploiting a flaw instead of reporting it, and opening several accounts to make yourself win. The server alone arbitrates ranking points, and a plainly rigged match can be voided, the account suspended or closed.

Found a flaw? Write to contact@rivalock.com — it is appreciated, and it is never held against whoever reports it.

So that a ranked game can start even at quiet hours, the service may offer opponents run by the server. They play the same puzzles, under the same rules, and their results count towards the ranking like anyone else’s.

Purchases

You can buy eighteen products: six coin packs, five packs of magnifiers for ranked play, one pack of puzzle swaps for Survival, the Starter pack, the Solo pack, the diamond avatar, the “In Another World” expansion, and the Season pass, a subscription, monthly or yearly. All of it goes entirely through Apple’s App Store or Google Play: the store takes the payment, and a refund request goes to them. Coins, magnifiers and swaps are in-game currency: they have no monetary value, cannot be resold and cannot be converted into money. Only two moves built into the game pass coins from one player to another: a gift to a friend, from twenty to a hundred coins once a day, and the wager of a duel between friends, which the winner takes. They work inside the game, and nowhere else.

Purchased content is unlocked immediately, at your express request. Under article L221-28 of the French consumer code, that immediate delivery waives the fourteen-day right of withdrawal — which is what you accept when you confirm the purchase in the store.

The Season pass subscription

The Season pass comes in two plans — monthly and yearly — and each renews itself at the end of every period until it is cancelled. The price of the plan you choose is shown in the game, in your own currency, before any payment. Cancelling is done from your store settings — App Store or Google Play — at least twenty-four hours before renewal; we have no control over it. After cancelling, you keep access until the end of the period already paid for. Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription: only the store can.

Adverts

They are optional and rewarded: none starts unless you decide it, and every story room can be finished while refusing them all; a single bonus level opens by watching five. Watching an advert is one way, among others, to get a hint, coins, a magnifier for ranked play, an avatar or that bonus level. No advert interrupts a puzzle. They are served by Google AdMob; in Europe, they are personalised only with your consent — see the privacy policy.

The game’s content

The rooms, the puzzles, the text, the images, the music and the name Rivalock belong to us. You may record and publish your playthroughs, including on a monetised channel — gladly, in fact. You may not extract the game’s files to redistribute them, nor use them to build another game.

The service can change, and one day stop

The game evolves: rooms are added, puzzles are fixed, balance settings move. Solo play stays available offline, but duels, the ranking and challenges between friends need our servers. Should the online service ever close, we would give at least thirty days’ notice, and no new purchase would be offered during that time.

Closing your account

You can delete your account from inside the game at any time. It erases your profile, your progress, your friendships and your duels, and it is final: coins, magnifiers and unlocked content are lost with it, without refund — except purchases you own, like the expansion, which come back with “Restore purchases” on a new account — and the worldwide ranking then holds nothing that identifies you. On our side, we only close an account for one of the reasons written above, and we say so.

What we answer for

We run the game as well as we can, without being able to promise it will never be interrupted or that no defect exists. Nothing here limits the rights the law gives you as a consumer, nor our liability for gross negligence or personal injury.

Governing law

These terms are governed by French law, without depriving a consumer living in another European Union country of the protections of their own law. If something goes wrong, write to us at contact@rivalock.com: we answer within fifteen days, and most disagreements are settled in one message. A refund request goes instead to the App Store or Google Play, whichever took the payment. The rights the law gives you as a consumer remain untouched.
